I had a weekend getaway at the JW Marriott Atlanta Buckhead, and while this wasn’t my first time visiting Atlanta, it was the first time I stayed in Buckhead. I decided to go a little further out this time rather than stay in the heart of the city, and I am so glad I did. After doing my research, I decided to stay at the JW Marriott Atlanta Buckhead; it was everything I was looking for and more! Since it was my first time staying there, after I got all checked in at the concierge, I got a brief tour that showed me where everything was, including how to gain entry into the Lenox Square Mall from the hotel, which I thought was really lovely.
The room itself was beautiful. It was clean, spacious, peaceful, bright, and when I booked it, I chose the City’s Skyline View option, and it did not disappoint – it was just perfect! There was a king-sized bed, a loveseat, a desk and a chair. The bathroom was incredible! So clean and welcoming.
By the time I got done unpacking my stuff, coupled with not having had much to eat earlier in the day, I was starving, but I didn’t feel like going out to eat, so I made my way downstairs to the lounge and had dinner at the bar. I ordered the Caesar Salad with a glass of merlot, which was delicious! While I was sitting at the bar eating, I noticed several jars with dried fruit, so I asked the bartender, Paul, what they were for, and he said they were for various cocktails. He piqued my interest when he said that the lemon was for the lemon drop cocktail because I have always heard about how good those were, but I never had one, so he offered to make me one after dinner. The lemon drop was worth the hype!
Things to Do
While there is no shortage of things to do in and around Atlanta, I decided to check out Pemberton Place. Why here? Because this is the place to be if you want to visit the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, and the Center for Civil & Human Rights. These three places offer so much to do and see that you can make a day trip. There are also many green spaces, so hanging outdoors and grabbing a bite to eat or getting some fresh air is doable.
There is also the Atlanta City Pass, which includes admission to five attractions for a one-time fee. For example, the three mentioned above, and a choice of two more include the Atlanta Zoo, The Fernbank Museum of Natural History, or the College Football Hall of Fame.
Later in the evening, and back in Buckhead, I stepped out and enjoyed dinner at The Capital Grille. By the way, they have a gluten-sensitive menu, and I must say that I was very impressed by how many items there were from which to choose. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures of my food, but I had the Field Greens Salad, with Tomato, Fresh Herbs, and Wild Roasted Mushrooms. I also tried their Blackberry Bourbon Sidecar cocktail, which was good.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the JW Marriott Atlanta Buckhead. If you’re looking for a beautiful hotel with friendly staff, great food (including lemon drops, lol), clean, spacious, and comfortable rooms, and a location that gives you a ‘weekend retreat’ feel. I highly recommend you stay at the JW Marriott Atlanta Buckhead. It was perfect for what I sought in a weekend getaway, and the location made it feel that way. I loved that after visiting and experiencing the busyness of the city and all that it had to offer, I was able to retreat to the peacefulness and calm of Buckhead, where I could relax and unwind. So it’s safe to say I will be back!
Would you stay here, or are you someone who needs to be in the heart of the city?
