We were supposed to meet with my Mother’s physician that morning, but when we got there, a nurse told us that he had an emergency and would be in around midday. Not wanting to return home, my brother took our Aunt and me to breakfast. After we’d finished eating, it was still too early to return to the hospital, so he took us for a drive. It was a bit long, and the roads were windy, but it was worth it when we arrived.
If you live in Trinidad and you guessed that the place I’m describing sounds like the LaVie Paramin Lookout, then you are correct. If you live in Trinidad and have never been, then it might be time to plan a visit!
There were four observation/viewing decks, each offering one impressive view after another. The views from different angles were perfect. An educational deck provided historical information about the area. Two cooking areas are also there, but the guards told us that cooking isn’t allowed. Visitors can use the spaces for eating, so I would say that they function more like picnic areas.
The LaVie Paramin Lookout, a hidden gem nestled in the hills of Maraval, stands at a majestic 2000 ft elevation, making it one of the island’s most popular eco-tourism sites. Its unique feature is the incredible 360° views of the surrounding areas and the opportunity to learn about the site’s history and culture. It’s a must-see for any nature enthusiast or traveler seeking a peaceful escape!
There is no fee to go to the lookout. It is 100% free.
The lookout opens at 5 am and closes at 8 pm every day, perfect for catching and capturing sunrises and sunsets. We arrived around 10 am, which was ideal because no one else was there besides one person flying their drone, my two family members, me, and the two security guards at the entrance.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, my brother drove us to the lookout, but tours are available for a fee if you need transportation. I’ve read great things about the North Coast Mountain Tours, including a stop at the picturesque Maracas Beach. Another option is the Misty Blue Mountain – The Paramin Experience, which takes you to the lookout and includes a food tour in Paramin, giving you a taste of the local cuisine.
La Vigie Paramin Lookout was the escape I didn’t know I needed. With my Mother hospitalized, being there provided me with a much-needed sense of calm and peace amidst the storm. The beauty and serenity of this place and the spectacular views were a salve for my soul. The drive is undoubtedly worth it. If you have the chance, I highly recommend immersing yourself in its tranquility and beauty for an entire day.
