Ponche A Crème or Ponche De Crème is a traditional drink made in Trinidad at Christmastime. Someone unfamiliar with it might want to call it eggnog, but to be clear, it is not. It’s better. Ponche a crème is a creamy drink made with milk, eggs, citrus flavors from the rind of limes, aromatic bitters, nutmeg and rum…lots of it.
I have been making Ponche A Crème using this recipe for years, but now I substitute the evaporated milk with soy milk since I don’t tolerate dairy the same way I did years ago. In my opinion, you can’t tell the difference. It’s just as good!
Ingredients
6 eggs
1 cup evaporated milk
2 cans of sweetened condensed milk
2 cups of rum
The rind of 1 lime
1 tablespoon Angostura aromatic bitters
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg
Directions
Beat the eggs and rind of the lime until the mixture is light yellow in color. Add evaporated milk and condensed milk. Mix well. Add rum, bitters, and nutmeg. Mix well and chill for at least 1 hour before serving.
I’d love to know if you made this, what you thought about it…all the deets, so leave me a comment or send me a DM on Instagram and let me know!
